World Environment Day: Time to De-Plastify Our Lives, and Our Leadership

This is personal. I am unwell with a fever. Every illness for me arises from having vibrated at a lower frequency recently. Often, I can pinpoint specific triggers – triggers I chose to ‘react’ to. Thus, in a more reflective mode 🙂 These are straight from my heart. I have transitioned to a lifestyle with less plastic, fewer chemicals, more organic ingredients, and less dairy.
Every June 5th, we pause to reflect on the only home we’ve ever known—Planet Earth.
This year’s theme is clear and urgent: Beat Plastic Pollution.
It’s not just about littered oceans or overflowing landfills anymore. Microplastics have now entered our bodies—lodged in our organs, running through our bloodstreams. We’ve not just consumed plastic—we’ve become part plastic.
This is not an environmental crisis alone. It’s a leadership crisis, a lifestyle crisis, and most of all, a consciousness crisis. 🙁
We need to De-Plastify—literally and metaphorically.
We need to rid our lives of toxins—physical, emotional, and systemic. Today, almost everything we touch is laced with chemicals:
- Soaps, detergents, and personal care products
- Packaged foods filled with preservatives
- Fruits and vegetables grown with deadly pesticides
- Air fresheners, cleaning agents, cosmetics—all engineered for convenience, not wellbeing
The impact? Slow, invisible erosion of our immunity, fertility, mental health, and inner vitality.
We are slowly poisoning ourselves—in the name of progress.
The Call to Conscious Leadership
The same applies to how we lead.
Plastic is not just a material—it’s a metaphor for what we’ve normalised: Short-termism. Superficiality. Artificiality.
It’s time to return to what’s natural. What’s sustainable? What’s real?
True leadership puts things in the right order: 🌿 Planet first. 👥 People next. 💰 Profit last.
Because profit on a dead planet is meaningless. Because people thriving in toxic environments is an illusion. Because a world that ignores its foundation cannot stand for long.
What Can We Do?
Start small. Start now.
- Swap chemical-laden products for natural alternatives
- Rethink what you consume—physically, emotionally, intellectually
- Lead conversations at work about sustainability, not just scalability
- Coach teams and clients to include planetary wellbeing in their decision frameworks
- Be intentional in what you buy, how you live, and how you lead
As coaches, as leaders, as global citizens—this is no longer optional. The Earth does not need saving. We do.
This World Environment Day, let’s not just pledge. Let’s practice. Let’s detox our lives—and our leadership—from within.
