Purpose. Priorities. Process.

Purpose. Priorities. Process.

A year-end reflection on living and leading well.

Life, when viewed clearly, is straightforward—though not easy. It boils down to purpose, prioritising, and action.

Mark Twain famously said that the two most important days in our lives are the day we are born and the day we discover why. Indic wisdom captures this even more succinctly:

“Jantu nām nara durlabhaṁ”

Being born human is rare and precious, but simply being born isn’t enough. True awakening occurs when we uncover our why.

When the why is clear, the how begins to unfold. As Nietzsche reminded us, “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.” Purpose provides resilience. It offers direction. Without it, even success feels empty.

But purpose alone is not enough. The link between purpose and results is the process, action!

In coaching, we often speak of awareness as a cornerstone. Yet awareness without action remains intellectual indulgence. Equally, action without awareness becomes restless busyness. Both fall short. A bias for action (from in search of excellence) may be better than paralysis—but action aligned with awareness and purpose is what creates meaningful progress.

This is where prioritising becomes critical.

Prioritising is often misunderstood as time or task management. It is neither. On a deeper level, it is about managing energy. Where does my energy go? What drains it? What replenishes it? What truly deserves my attention—today, now, in this season of life?

There is a paradox here worth noticing. Let us lean into that paradox 🙂

The more we prioritise only ourselves and our immediate needs, the more contracted our world becomes. The more— even in small doses—we prioritise others, contribution, and service, the more expansive our life feels.

Even in our own roti, kapda, makan… Can we spare a thought for the planet and people before focusing solely on our ‘profits’ or benefits? And what about all those deprived?
“Paropakārārtham idam śarīram.” This body, this life, exists for contribution.

We may not be ready to live entirely for others. And that’s okay. Transformation rarely happens in grand leaps. It occurs gradually—through small, conscious choices. Through atomic habits. Through daily actions aligned with purpose.

This is how we progress toward our full potential—personally and professionally. This is coaching, in its purest form.

From survival to fulfilment. From Annamaya Kosha to Anandamaya Kosha. From doing to just being.
Reflecting on 2025, I find it has been a profoundly fulfilling year—both professionally and personally. However, honestly, I see areas where I could have been more aware of my purpose, prioritised more effectively, and trusted the process of aligned action more deeply. Still more for planet & people/community.
Reflection, after all, is not about regret. It is about learning. So I pause with a question — for myself, and for you:

How has 2025 been for you? And what lessons will you carry into 2026—on your own Hero’s Journey—to truly “follow your bliss”?

Because purpose is discovered, priorities are clarified, and action is aligned—that is not just success.
That is a life well lived.

Happy holidays… Wishing you a wonderful year to come!
